Are you thinking about installing a new bathtub in your home? It is very common nowadays to have more than one bathtub in a bathroom. Most homes today already have at least two, if not more, bathtubs. However, do you know that in some cases a bathtub installation costs almost as much as a whole new bathroom?
Some homes may have more than one tub installed but it does not mean that each of the tubs have to be exactly the same. There are two kinds of bathtub installation: sunken and floating. If you choose to have a sunken tub, you will need the services of a plumbing contractor or plumber. The plumbing contractor or plumber will draw up your special construction plan and estimates how much plumbing work and material will be needed for your project.
Sunken bathtub installation requires more work like digging deeper into the foundation and waterproofing the area around the edge of the tub. Another thing that needs to be done is to change the water heater, heating and ventilation system. This may require two or three visits to the local plumber because changing the heating system may need to be suspended for a few months while the plumbing contractor or plumber remove the old unit and installs the new one. Then when the new unit is installed, the old one has to be removed again because the pipes from it are longer than the pipes from the bathroom sink. And then, you will have to pay for the labor of the plumber to plunge the toilet and for the water to be used again.
If you choose to have a floating bathtub installation, you don’t have to worry about much on the plumbing side because it only requires a little amount of plumbing. All you have to do is to make sure that the drain holes are adequately maintained, and that the plumbing joints are all strong. When choosing a plumbing contractor or plumber, make sure that they are licensed and insured. And when you get the estimate on how much does it cost to remodel your bathroom, make sure that the amount they offer includes not only the materials for the project but also the labor and the equipment they will use.
When choosing the slabs for the installation, the prices range depending on the size and the material used. The larger the tub surround the larger the price would be. If you want a cheaper price, then you can choose the smaller size and material.
The installation cost could also depend on the type you want. There are different ones you can choose depending on your preferences and the theme of your bathroom. The most common materials are acrylic, cast iron, stainless steel, and acrylic polymer.
